Mystery #3Tier 2minibeasts / ants

How do ants march in a perfect line straight to a dropped crumb?

Drop a crumb in the kitchen and within an hour a neat line of ants is marching straight to it and back to their nest. No ant shouts directions, and a single ant can barely see past its own nose. Yet somehow hundreds of them find the exact same path. How do they all know the way?
