How does a bat swoop through pitch darkness without crashing?
On a moonless night a bat pours out of a cave and races between the trees, twisting round branches it cannot possibly see. It never bumps a thing, and it snatches tiny insects clean out of the air. Its eyes are almost useless in that darkness. So how does a bat find its way?
