Mystery #4Tier 2biology / snakes / movement

How does a snake glide forward with no legs at all?

A snake has no legs, no fins, no flippers and no wheels, yet it can slide across the ground, climb a tree and even ripple over loose sand. Nothing obvious seems to be shoving it along, and still it flows forward as smoothly as water. So how does a snake glide forward with no legs at all?
