Mystery #2Tier 2electricity / batteries / chemistry

What is really going on inside a battery to make electricity flow?

A battery just sits there, cool and still, with no moving parts you can see. Yet connect it up and it drives electricity round for hours, lighting bulbs and spinning motors. Nothing seems to stir on the outside. So what hidden thing inside a plain battery keeps shoving electricity along?
