How does a tardigrade survive being dried out, frozen, and even blasted into space?

There is a creature smaller than a grain of sand that can be dried to dust, frozen close to the coldness of space, and even flung out into the empty vacuum beyond our sky. Do all of that, add a drop of water, and it simply gets up and carries on. How can the tardigrade shrug off things that would destroy almost anything else?
