Why does butter melt in a warm hand but a metal spoon needs a furnace?

Squeeze a lump of butter in your hand and it turns to grease in seconds. But to melt a metal spoon you would need a furnace hot enough to glow. Both are solids sitting on the same table, yet one gives up at body heat and the other laughs at a bonfire. Why do different things melt at such wildly different temperatures?
