Mystery #3Tier 2beaks and evolution

Why do the same little finches have such different beaks from one island to the next?

On one island the little finches crack big, tough seeds with thick, heavy beaks. Hop to the next island and their close relatives have slim, pointed beaks for picking insects out of bark. They are almost the same bird, yet their beaks are wildly different. Why would the very same kind of finch end up with such different tools on its face?
