Why does a spray can turn cold as you use it?

Give a can of deodorant or air freshener a long spray and the can turns noticeably cold, cold enough to feel it in your fingers. Nothing has been put in the fridge. In fact the can was at room temperature only a moment ago. So why does using it make it go chilly?
