Mystery #2Tier 2-3space / stars / light

If space is packed with countless stars, why is the night sky mostly black?

Space is stuffed with countless stars, so in every direction your line of sight should end on a star, and the whole sky should blaze with light. Yet the night sky is mostly black. Why?
